Each course contributes grade points × credit hours, then the total is divided by credits. The letter-to-points map is a visible unweighted 4.0 convenience scale. Weighted honors points, plus/minus variants, and pass/fail policies differ by school.

Why this will not match every portal

Some high schools add 0.5 or 1.0 for AP. Some colleges use A+ = 4.0, others 4.3. If your handbook disagrees with the table on the page, the handbook wins for that school.

Is this a weighted GPA?

No. It is unweighted 4.0 convenience points. For a weighted GPA, your school’s extra points are not in this engine.

Engine notes

Rounding, versioning, and omissions that sit beside the guide rather than repeating it.

  • Quality points. GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits. An A at 4.0 with 3 credits plus a B at 3.0 with 3 credits is 3.5.
  • Visible scale. Each letter’s point value is shown in the grade menu. It is a common U.S. unweighted mapping, not every school’s catalog.
  • Weighted GPA policies vary by school. There is no nationwide weighted-GPA standard to apply, so this page uses the unweighted 4.0 scale it shows. Weighted course grades belong on the Grade Calculator.
