  2. Total contributions$150,000
  3. Projected balance7% assumed return, contributed monthly$433,663
What we assumed
  • This is a projected Roth IRA balance under the return you typed. It is not a determination of eligibility, and not investment advice.
  • IRS tax year 2026 limits are applied: $7,500 a year, plus $1,100 catch-up from age 50. Contributions above the limit for your age are reduced to it. Official copy: irs-retirement-limits-2026-v1.
  • Those limits are held flat for the whole projection. The IRS indexes them for inflation, so later years are understated rather than guessed at.
  • Roth eligibility phases out by filing status and modified adjusted gross income. Those ranges are not modeled here, so a high earner may be able to contribute less than this shows, or nothing directly.
  • Contributions are assumed to be made monthly in equal amounts, at the end of each month. The return you type is applied as a nominal annual rate compounded monthly, the same convention the other projection calculators use.
  • Taxes, penalties, withdrawal rules, and conversions are not included.

Guide

Roth IRA contribution growth, not eligibility

The page projects contributions growing at an assumed return. It does not test MAGI limits, earned-income rules, or conversion math. A projection can look healthy for someone who is not allowed to contribute.

Contribution limits are annual and personal

IRS Roth IRA limits (and catch-up ages) change by year. Type only what you can actually contribute. This snapshot may mention a limit in copy; it does not enforce your MAGI.

Questions about this calculator

Can I contribute to a Roth IRA?

This page will not say. Eligibility depends on earned income and MAGI. Use IRS Publication 590-A or a tax professional.

Terms used here

MAGI
Modified adjusted gross income, used in Roth IRA eligibility. Not computed here.
Roth IRA
A retirement account with after-tax contributions and potentially tax-free qualified withdrawals. This page only grows contributions.

Practical tips

  • If you are near an income limit, do not treat a maxed projection as a plan.
  • Employer plans are on the 401(k) page; they have different limits.

Limits and caveats

  • Not tax advice and not an eligibility determination.

Engine notes

Rounding, versioning, and omissions that sit beside the guide rather than repeating it.

  • Growth only. Current balance plus monthly contributions compound monthly at the assumed return, using the shared contribution-growth primitive.
  • Contribution-limit context. The IRS tax year 2026 IRA contribution limit is $7,500 (plus $1,100 catch-up at age 50+). Those caps are not enforced in the math.
  • Eligibility. Roth IRA contribution eligibility depends on filing status and modified AGI. This page will not say you are eligible to contribute a stated amount.
